Heritage Cricketers retain their title as Cup champions at the

2023 Phuket International Cricket Sixes

Finals Day Report - Sunday 23rd April 2023

Heritage Cricketers retained their title as Cup holders at the 2023 Phuket International Cricket Sixes. The side from Dhaka in Bangladesh proved too strong in the face of a valiant performance of Blue Tree Cricket Team in the final as they ran out winners by 31 runs.

While Heritage batted brilliantly throughout the 4 days, the Player of the Match award in the final went to Syed Shahed who took 2-4 in the final over with the ball. It crowned another superb performance from a team who continue to be great ambassadors, playing the game in exactly the right way.

The Bowl was played between the two losing Cup semi-finalists and it saw Gauhati Town Club overcome Mumbai Strikers in an all Indian encounter to lift the trophy with an over to spare, chasing down a target of 62. Deep Borah, who had a fine tournament, was named Player of the Match for his retirement on 32. Earlier Strikers had been dismantled by Heritage, with Town Club finding Blue Tree a formidable act.

The third tier Plate saw House of Cricket, fall 6 runs short of the 70-2 posted by victors, Cricket Club of Dibrugarh, of Assam in a thrilling finish. The side from of Skema in South Africa looked set for victory until an incredible 3-3 in the final over from Player of the Match, Pankaj Saikia pulled off a remarkable win.

In the earlier Plate semi-finals, Dibrugarh disposed of Hong Kong tourists, Lamma CC, while Calcutta Swimming Club whose form over the 4 days was up and down like the Andaman waves, were beaten by House of Cricket.

The Spoon had earlier seen a 3 team round robin, in which 91 Yards Club ended top of the tree to collect the spoils after defeating CBB CC and Incredible 7. The adjudicating panel gave the Player of the Group award to Imdad Hussain who scored 33 off 10 balls in the decisive game.

The ever present international CBB line up saw off the most sporting entrants from Singapore in the other match. 91 Yards Club made it a treble for Assam, leading no doubt to some celebrations around Bangtao where the teams are staying as well as on the flights home.

The Player of the Tournament award was presented to Manoj Yadav of Heritage Cricketers for his total 204 tournament runs and 7 wickets in a superb all-round display, while the prestigious Spirit of Cricket Accolade went to umpire Clive Howard.

At the conclusion of the presentations, ACST Chairman Michael Maher was delighted with the tournament. “To see so many friends old and new back playing in Phuket, where the ACST first staged a tournament back in 2004, has been tremendous. The cricket has been of a fantastic standard, as has the camaraderie and sportsmanship between all participants”.

“I would like to thank the locals at the ACG for the use of the ground, my ACST partners, and all officials as well as all our sponsors and tournament hotels for their loyal support”. Mr. Maher continued.

The action heats up on a scorching Saturday full of twists and turns

at the ACST Phuket International Cricket Sixes

Day 3 Report

It was a fascinating Saturday at the Phuket International Cricket Sixes, with several unpredictable results, as the 11 team table changed several times which left questions still unanswered owing to a late finish.

The teams reconvened to finish Round 1 at the Alan Cook Ground in Phuket, as they vied for positions on the ladder, prior to the top 8 breaking away and playing one further game with points added to the table to see who competes for Cup and Plate.

Newcomers Mumbai Strikers had two games in the first stage and showed their considerable abilities in dismantling Incredible 7 and then 91 Yards Club before Gauhati Town Club ended their fun in Round 2 with a fine win.

The question being, will it be enough to seal the victors of that clash from Assam a place in the Cup. It will be answered in the morning, and it depends if Calcutta Swimming Club can defend the total that they have set Cricket Club of Dibrugarh. The Calcutta outfit discarded their arm bands and put in two brilliant earlier performances to beat Gauhati Town Club and CBB CC.

Blue Tree Cricket Club sealed their Cup place by seeing off the challenge of House of Cricket and then Lamma CC, who themselves had a fantastic first half of the day when defeating CBB CC and the Incredible 7. All eyes are on the holders Heritage Club, with the Bangladeshi’s posting a remarkable 101 without loss in their clash with the Dibrugarh side prior to defeating House of Cricket.

An exciting Finals Day awaits, in which CBB CC, Incredible 7, and 91 Yards Club will play for the Spoon.

At the conclusion of a very long day’s play, Ian Liddell, ACST Tournament Referee and Director, was a happy man. “We have seen some excellent cricket throughout with more to come tomorrow on Finals Day. It’s been great to welcome sides from around the cricketing world, with a strong contingent of Indian sides reflecting how that nation is looked upon as a leader in cricket all around the world.”

Blue Tree Cricket Team maintain early form at the

ACST Phuket International Cricket Sixes

Day 2 Report

Local representatives, Blue Tree Cricket Team, with an influence of Pattaya based players lead the ladder at the completion of Day 2 of the Phuket International Cricket Sixes.

They put out a statement of intent with their hammering of Assam’s Cricket Club of Dibrugarh who posted a respectful total of 62. However, Blue Tree passed the score in just 3.3 overs as the opening partnership of Ashan Fonseka and Ahmad Mughal shone as brightly as the Phuket sun.

Meanwhile, Cup holders from 2019, Heritage Cricketers, again provided evidence that they will not be relinquishing their title easily, with a couple of victories.

The team from Dhaka in Bangladesh who also won the ACST Siam International Cricket Sevens in November, sunk The Calcutta Swimming Club as they amassed 88-2 from their 5 overs as Manoj Yadav retired on 34. In their later match, Heritage then proved far too strong for 91 Yards Club in the final match of the day, chasing down the target of 64 with ease.

Just four other matches were played in Round One at the Alan Cook Ground. Mumbai Strikers, who look a decent punt for honours, defeating Lamma CC, one of the sides who competed in the first tournament back in 2004. 91 Yards Club will feel better for their first victory at the event, especially after their later defeat, as they proved too strong for Incredible 7 in the opening match of the day.

Gauhati Town Club got over the line in a thrilling finish off the final delivery against House of Cricket, after Deep Borah had set his side up in the reply after a fine knock in the first dig by Michael Payne.

Once again, the Friday of the tournament featured a separate match, this time a T15 encounter between the Indians and The Rest who are competing over the four days. The Indians scored 148-6 with Borah and Cyril getting the runs. It proved to be too little with The Rest reaching the target for the loss of 2 wickets with five overs to spare. Salman Hossain Emon and Benjamin Potgieter proved to be the stars with the bat in the chase.

It’s a great opening day as friends and teams reunite

at the Phuket International Cricket Sixes

Day 1 Report

Cricket was the winner on Day 1 at the long-awaited continuation of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) Phuket International Cricket Sixes, which was last staged in 2019. Teams from far and wide assembled to get stuck into the action at the Alan Cook Ground (ACG) on the paradise island.

11 teams are competing in the event over 4 days, with Round One action seeing all sides play 4 matches, before being seeded to play for honours. Local entrants Blue Tree Cricket team lead the ladder after seeing off Gauhati Town Club and fellow participants from Assam in India, Cricket Club of Dibrugarh with Ashan Fonseka scoring a retirement which was matched by Shad Wahid in the second of the victories.

South Africa is represented at the event by House of Cricket, and they also can be happy with their efforts. Cricket Club of Dibrugarh defeated them with the penultimate ball of the opening encounter hit by Saurav Bagawati after a dazzling 12 ball retirement of 33 from Kamakhya Saikia. House of Cricket responded to take down Gauhati Town Club as a fine batting display from Avumile Mnci rendered the total of 81 unmanageable.

Cup holders Heritage Cricketers of Bangladesh fired a warning to those wanting to take their crown with a crushing defeat of Lamma CC, as Manoj Yadav scored 36 of the posted total of 90.

The final match of the day was another thriller as in a battle of newcomers, Mumbai Strikers overcame Calcutta Swimming Club off the final ball. Yasovardhan Kanodia looked set to send his side for a first win with his 31, but excellent batting from Vinod Muthukumar proved decisive.

The other couple of encounters on the opening day involved perennial favourites CBB CC, who had a mixed start. They defeated debutants 91 Yards Club of Assam as Dixie Joy starred, but they were overcome by mixed gender side, Incredible 7, with Cyril and Rajes seeing the Singapore team home.

Play will start tomorrow at the ACG at 9.45am where food and refreshments are available. Spectators are welcome and admission is free, with Friday’s fixtures featuring a T20 game between Indian participants in the tournament against the rest at 11.30am.

ACST Siam International Cricket Sevens 2022

Finals Day Wrap: Sunday 27th November

Heritage CC win the Cup at the Siam International Cricket Sevens

Heritage CC are the Cup winners at the 2022 ACST Siam International Cricket Sevens. The side from Bangladesh played terrific cricket throughout. Sadly, with the score on 18-1 for 1.2 overs the heavens opened against Raju’s VII. Heritage were crowned as winners by virtue of winning most games and accumulating most points in the group stage.

The semi-finals saw the champions sail past the youngsters of Lamphun, who once again won the hearts of the attending participants while Raju’s VII revenged the previous days last ball loss to end the hopes of Lamma CC of Hong Kong.

The Trophy final saw a thriller as CBB SCs and CBB SKs both scored 66 from their 5 overs. However, the SCs won on virtue of losing fewer wickets after Steve Christie had retired on 34 to win the player of the final award.

Deepak Khatri was named as Player of the Tournament for his 122 runs in 6 innings, while the prestigious Spirit of Cricket Award went to Zial Alam Rony.

A special presentation was made to Raju of Raju’s Cricket Club, winners of the previous Siam Sevens, who has supported the 2022 events, with an invitational side playing under his name.

The morning games saw the completion of the initial round robin stage, with Heritage CC winning their couple of matches against CBB SKs and then Lamphun, who had earlier defeated CBB SKs, while Lamma were too strong for CBB SCs who were also on the wrong end to Raju’s VII.

Monies were raised throughout the three days for the Thailand Junior Cricket Development Fund who assist in the development of junior cricket in Northern Thailand. The fund sponsored Lamphun in this event.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher, was delighted at the ground following play. "It has been a pleasure to be able to put on a tournament once again after an enforced absence of three years. Every participant has been an absolute credit to the game of cricket as the tournament has been played in great spirit as our ethos of “friendships through cricket” was enacted. Heritage CC were superb throughout and are worthy champions”.

“I would like to thank Neville Kendrick of sponsors Titan Finance Ltd and all the staff at the Duangtawan Hotel for their kind assistance. And on a personal note, all involved with the CBB CC on their 100th Tour bringing back so many wonderful memories.”

ACST Siam International Cricket Sevens 2022

Day One Wrap: Saturday 26th November

Lamma CC of Hong Kong lead the charge on Day One of the Siam International Cricket Sevens

Lamma CC are top of the table in dramatic fashion after Day One of the Siam International Cricket Sevens. In the final game of the day Chris Coombes came out to face the final ball after colleague Brad Tarr retired on 31, to hit a six to win the match against Raju’s VII.

Both batters starred throughout the day, as Lamma won three out of their four matches, also defeating CBB SKs, and Lamphun, sponsored by the Thailand Junior Cricket Development Fund.

Bangladesh representatives Heritage CC set the benchmark on with some scintillating cricket at the Chiang Mai Gymkhana Club grounds. The team containing former Test and ODI star Elias Sunny and T20 international player Nadif Chowdhury accumulated wins against the CBB SCs, Raju’s VII, and Lamma CC, with their game in hand likely to be vital later in the piece.

Play commenced in the competition proper on a beautiful morning following a sabbatical of three years owing to the Coronavirus pandemic, with the teams all playing each other in a round robin group to establish rankings to play for honours on Sunday’s Finals Day.

In the other games Raju’s VII saw off Lamphun and CBB SKs as they find themselves third in the standings. The other game of the day in an entertaining match CBB SCs defeated CBB SKs.

The previous afternoon had seen a T18 encounter between the CBB CC, celebrating their 100th Tour, and an All Stars side made up of other participants. The All Stars knocked off the required 69 runs for victory without loss, in a match played in excellent spirit.

The Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ASCT) regret to announce the cancellation of the 2022 Phuket Cricket Sixes. This difficult decision has been made with the health and wellbeing of our customers and tourists as our priority. We feel that the regulations regarding international arrivals are still too stringent and high risk, along with the current Covid 19 situation, where Omicron is spreading quickly among the community in Thailand.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your continued support and understanding. The ACST will continue to assess tournaments later in 2022 and will make any announcements as soon as we have any news.

The ACST Phuket Cricket Week returns for 2022. The popular ICC award winning event will be held between Thursday 14th and Sunday 17th April 2022 at the Alan Cooke Ground.

As an organisation we are keeping a close eye on developments regarding the worldwide Coronavirus Pandemic and are acutely aware of some current restrictions in place in Thailand along with the difficulty for some to come and go from certain countries. However, we are confident that things are improving.

We have come to the decision to hold just one tournament rather than the usual Phuket International Sixes and the Thalang 7’s taking all of this into account. An announcement will be made in due course as to the actual cricket.

We wish all our supporters and friends, both old and new, the very best of health and thank you for your considered support over what has been a terribly difficult time for many people.

2019 ACST Thalang International Sevens Presentation Ceremony

April 2019

It’s a Super Saturday at the 7’s for Phuket Misfits

Thalang International Cricket 7’s 2019

Day Two Wrap - Saturday 20th April

Phuket Misfits had a memorable middle day at the Thalang International Cricket 7’s. The debutant local collective completed wins to end their Round One matches as they defeated Discovery Bay Timberwolves and then Cricket Club of Dibrugarh in the day’s shock result, as Ali Khan’s fine form continued with bat and ball.

The earlier double was backed up as the Misfits took local bragging rights against Patong Penguins to put a spanner in their particular Cup placement hopes, as the ten competing sides finished off Round One before entering into the second round games. Teams will then be classified into Cup, Bowl and Plate divisions to play for honours on Sunday’s Finals Day at the Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket.

Lamma CC also had a day to remember to stay in touch at the top of the standings with fine victories against Village Cricket Team and Rowdiez as Brad Tarr hit his way to a retirement for the Hong Kong side. Lamma can consolidate their position in their pivotal second stage game on Sunday morning against Timberwolves.

The Dibrugarh side from India’s state of Assam bounced back in fine style to inflict another defeat on the Rowdiez to round off a miserable day for the team from Qatar who also had their flag lowered by Patong Penguins.

Pushing for places in the Bowl semi-finals are CBB Postels who collected a win against Malaysia’s ADF Tigers before going down narrowly to Timberwolves in a dramatic finish as they fell just four runs short of their target.

The Penguins inflicted a win against the Village Cricket Team in the other local derby of the day. The Villagers also tasted defeat against Surfers Paradise Demons before the Queenslanders lost in the final game of the day to the Tigers despite Peter Flanders starring once again with the batting of Daniel Neu proving the difference for ADF.

Tournament referee Ian Liddell was one of many to enjoy proceedings. “The 7s format is slightly different to Sixes and it’s always interesting to see the tactics pan out. We have a wonderful group of teams this year who are playing the games in the spirit intended in sweltering conditions.”

Following play at the ACG the teams returned to the Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort; one of three tournament hotels along with Premier Best Western and Sunwing Bangtao Hotels for the Tournament Gala Dinner, to continue making friendships through cricket

Finals Day at the ACG will start at 9:30am on Sunday as the teams look to win honours. Spectators are welcome, admission is free, and refreshments are available.

Cricket Club of Dibrugarh lead the charge at the 7’s

Thalang International Cricket 7’s 2019

Day One Wrap - Friday 19th April

Cricket Club of Dibrugarh came out on top after Day One of the 2019 ACST Thalang International Cricket 7’s. The team from Assam in India completed wins against the Timberwolves of Mumbai, the international collective of the CBB Postels and Malaysia’s ADF Tigers. Kamakhya Saikia starred with the bat for Dibrugarh with two retirements, with opening partner Dhiraj Goswami also contributing.

The event, in its eighth year has once again attracted participants from far and wide to the excellently appointed Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket to enjoy a fine festival of cricket to complete the Phuket Cricket Week organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST).

Each of the ten sides will play four matches plus a further second round game to determine which honours they will compete for on Sunday’s Finals Day. Matches are of the same format of cricket sixes, with games lasting around forty minutes and consisting of five overs a side; while captain’s have the luxury of an extra fielder to manoeuvre.

Hot on the heels of Dibrugarh are Lamma CC of Hong Kong, Phuket Misfits and Qatar side Rowdiez who all came through Day One unbeaten; albeit having played a game less than the leaders.

Lamma saw off Surfers Paradise Demons and then Patong Penguins, thanks to a fine knock from John Wright. The locally based Misfits proved to be too strong for the ADF Tigers and then the CBB’s, as Ali Khan starred. Rowdiez defeated Queensland’s Demons and the third local representatives; Village Cricket Team.

The action took a short break as a minute’s silence was held to remember regular attendee and ACST official Gary Foster who passed away during the night, with the day’s play dedicated to his memory.

Play had earlier got underway with a win for the host side Penguins over Surfers Paradise with the Timberwolves just getting over the line by 3 runs against a valiant Tigers effort who had bowled out their victors in the remaining encounter, with Krish Trivedi’s innings proving decisive.

Participants headed for a barbeque at the Aussie Pub in Kamala on Friday evening as they continued to make friendships through cricket.

Day Two at the ACG will start at 9.30am on Saturday. Spectators are welcome, admission is free, and refreshments are available.

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2019

Finals Day Wrap - Sunday 14th April

Heritage Cricketers of Dhaka are the 2019 Cup winners of the 16th ACST Phuket International Cricket Sixes on a wonderful day’s play at the Alan Cooke Ground to round off another fine event.

Heritage scored 89-3 in the showpiece against Warriors of Qatar thanks to quality batting from Jatinder Singh and Taufiqul Nayan after a shaky start to the innings. In reply Warriors fell 28 runs short on 61-0 despite a sterling effort from leading light Imal Liyanage.

The champions had reached the final after edging out House of Cricket by 5 runs in a thrilling semi-final. The defeated South Africans from Northern Cape fell just short as Ruan Maritz reached 34 not out to round off their fine debut ACST appearance.

In the other Cup semi-final Warriors proved too strong for Yarraleen Lions, defeating the Melbourne outfit by 6 wickets as Liyanage and Assad Bora showed exhilarating skills with the willow.

Wins for Yarraleen Lions over House of Cricket and Heritage Cricketers against Penguin Penguins on Sunday morning had earlier secured both sides semi-final berths as Sri Lankan Test star Russel Arnold starred for the Lions once again.

Leederville CC were crowned as the second tier Bowl champions following victory over the locals of Patong Penguins after the teams finished 5th and 6th in the final standings. Eoghan McElwee and Michael Evans knocked off the 66 required for the Perth side in the final without the loss of a wicket, after Jason Robertson starred for the Penguins in their innings.

The Plate was won by Southern Stars who overcame Bounty Buccanneers by 70 runs after posting a huge total of 97-1 from their 5 overs, as Amiruddin took the plaudits with the bat for the victors with a retirement on 32.

In the Plate group games earlier in proceedings, Eagles CC defeat CBB Postels but then lost to Southern Stars, meaning the Victorian side overcame the Samoan team to reach the final, where they faced the Buccs of Malaysia who had also seen off the Chiang Mai based CBB outfit.

Following play at the ACG the teams returned to a tournament hotel, the Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort for the Presentation Dinner to continue making friendships through cricket, and to see who won the coveted Player of the Tournament and Spirit of Cricket Awards, as the trophies were handed out.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher reflected contently at the completion of play. “This has been another memorable edition of the Phuket International Cricket Sixes with the emphasis very much on international, as teams old and new have contributed from many nations.”

“There has been some magnificent cricket and wonderful friendships cemented. Heritage Cricketers have proven to be fitting Cup winners, but my congratulations go out to all teams, regardless of winning trophies. They have all been a credit to themselves, the tournament and the ACST.”

“I would like to thank the Phuket Cricket Group and the committee of the Alan Cooke Ground for their invaluable assistance with the event along with our valued sponsors and dedicated volunteers and officials who have worked tirelessly to make the event such a success. Here’s to 2020!”

The ACST return to the ACG next week to stage the annual Thalang International Cricket 7’s, from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st April.

The Competition for Cup Places Hots Up at the ACG

 Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2019

Day Three Wrap - Friday 12th April

Warriors from Qatar had a happy Friday going into the Songkran break at the Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket as they led the standings on 30 points after completing a perect record of six wins out of six in the Phuket International Sixes 2019 as they have qualified for a place in Cup Semi-Finals which will be played on Sunday.

The Warriors played two matches on Friday as they beat Yaraleen Lions from Australia by 11 runs and following an hour’s rain delay also defeated House of Cricket from South Africa by six wickets. Warriors have a formibale top three as Assad, Imal and Hadi all made runs over the course of two matches

Each of the top six sides after Round One play a further two matches in the second stage, with their points tallies carried forward to formulate the groupings for honours on Sunday.

Other sides currently occupying the Cup places after Day 3 were the boys from Bangladesh Heritage Cricketer made it five wins out of five to stand in second place in the table after beating Leederville from Australia by four wickets. Although they both lost on Friday, Yaraleen and Leederville are still in the top four.

Leederville lost both matches on Friday as they had earlier been beaten by local favourites Patong and House of Cricket will overtake them if they beat Yaraleen on Sunday morning. Patong have to face Heritage so they are still most likely to compete for the Bowl rather than reach the Cup semi-finals.

The Plate group; competed for by the sides finishing in places 7 to 10 after the first round, saw its opening salvos. Friday’s matches saw wins for Eagles and Southern Stars who both gained their first victories of the tournament but Bounty Buccaneers won the final Sixes match of the day to leave all four teams including CBBs in contention for the Plate final.

Following the completion of seven matches in the Sixes, a 15-over matches was played between the All Stars and the Rest of the World as the 22 players who were put forward to play were selected for the two sides by drawing names out of a hat. The random selection process worked perfectly as team mates played against team mates with a large selection from House of Cricket being roared on by their enthusiastic supporters. Both teams collapsed early against hostile bowling but All Stars recoverd to 103 for 8 thanks to 35 from Assad Bora but it was Rest of the World who won by two wickets after Faisal Ahmed hit 31 before his retirement before last man Amiruddin hit two sixes to win an exciting match.

Tomorrow sees a rest day from the main competition as participants enjoy the Songkran celebrations along with some Beach Cricket at Bangtao.

Finals Day on Sunday will see the honours decided from 9:45 at the Alan Cooke Ground. After the conclusion of the group matches there will be semi-finals and a final in the Cup and finals for the Bowl and the Plate. Admission is free for spectators, all are welcome and refreshments are available.

Heritage Cricketers clip the wings of Eagles and House of Cricket

to top the standings after Day Two at the ACG

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2019

Day Two Wrap - Thursday 11th April

Dhaka side Heritage Cricketers took over at the top of the standings after Day Two in Phuket following wins against Eagles CC of Samoa and then previous front runners House of Cricket of South Africa with some fine team play, aided by a fine retired knock by Mahabub Niloy and a 2-6 over from Jatinder Singh.

The only other unbeaten side at the end of Round One are Warriors of Qatar as they lowered the colours of Malaysia’s Bounty Buccaneers, Chiang Mai’s CBB Postels as well as Southern Stars of Victoria with Imal Liyanage, Assad Bora and Shakir Hussain showing scintillating form with the bat. Mohammad Hadi took three wickets in his over against the Buccs.

The Phuket International Cricket Sixes has been competed for since 2004 and forms part of the Phuket Cricket Week organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST). Each side plays four games in round one, with the top eight sides then jostling for Cup and Bowl positions in a further round two game; while the other teams contest the Plate competition.

Pressing for a top four slot are Melbourne’s Yarraleen Lions who smashed 102 against the Buccaneers as former Sri Lankan Test and limited overs star Russel Arnold and Imesh Udayanga made hay in the sun before the two same batsmen put Perth’s Leederville CC under the pump with further retirements in their innings.

Leederville’s defeat was their only deficit in the opening stages as they took the spoils against Southern Stars earlier in the proceedings to stay in contention. House of Cricket skipper Michael Payne made a retirement in his outfit’s victory against the locals of Patong Penguins to also press for a later opportunity to look for Cup honours.

In the day’s other couple of games, Bounty Buccaneers saw off the challenge of Eagles with Dave Nightingale rolling back the years with the willow in a fine socially contested affair before Patong proved too strong for the Postels in the final match of the day.

Play will continue on tomorrow (Friday) at 9:45 at the Alan Cooke Ground after as participants headed to sponsor bar, the Aussie Pub in Kamala for a barbeque and get together after play. Admission is free for spectators, all are welcome, and refreshments are available.

House of Cricket Lead the Way in Phuket

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2019

Day One Wrap - Wednesday 10th April

South African side, House of Cricket lead the standings after Day One of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) 2019 Phuket International Cricket Sixes, as the tournament got under way in glorious weather at the Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket.

The side debuting in the tournament from Hartswater in Northern Cape hammered the Samoan outfit Eagles CC in the final match of the day with Ruan Maritz showing the way with the bat after his team had taken down Victorian team Southern Stars earlier in the day.

Other leading contenders after Day One completing a couple of wins were Leederville CC of Perth WA, who defeated the locals of Patong Penguins and then the Samoan representatives Eagles CC. Joining Leederville at the top of the standings are Heritage Cricketers. The team from Bangladesh saw out victory against Southern Stars and Patong Penguins with Jatinder Singh putting on a fine display of batting.

Yarraleen Lions of Melbourne defeated the CBB Postels in the opening game of the 2019 tournament before having their flag lowered by Warriors of Qatar for whom Imal Liyanage made 33 not out.

In the day’s other game, the ACST offered a warm welcome back to old favourites Bounty Buccaneers after a nine year sabbatical. It was perhaps a case of dusting away the cobwebs as they were beaten comprehensively by the CBB Postels.

Vale Gary “Gazza” Foster

It is with great sadness that the ACST has been informed of the passing of Gary “Gazza” Foster after a sudden illness.

Gazza, from Newcastle NSW, was always a pleasure to see at the numerous tournaments he attended, where he was of great assistance to the operational side of the team which ensures that our events run smoothly. A keen cricketer in his younger days, Gazza went on to win a Player of the Day Award at the ACST Pattaya International Cricket Sixes in 2010.

Everyone connected with the ACST will miss his kind nature, friendship and enthusiasm.

We hope that he enjoyed the ride as much as we did having him with us.

The ACST have dedicated Day One of the Thalang International Cricket 7's to Gary.

RIP Gazza

CMSCA Announce Funds Raised at the

ACST Siam International Cricket Sevens

The Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) are delighted to announce that a magnificent amount of ฿105,332 (£2,600 – $4,700 AUD) was raised at the Siam International Cricket Sevens tournament in Chiang Mai last November, which has been donated to the Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Alliance (CMSCA).

CMSCA is also supported by the annual Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes and Chiang Mai Lanna Cricket Club, along with other sponsors, as they coach junior cricket players in the region as well as providing kit, transport and food for the children.

A ‘Sawasdee’ softball and hardball cricket program is coached in 8 of the 9 CMSCA member schools. There are currently around 230 local children playing cricket in CMSCA schools in Chiang Mai, of which about 30 are training in hardball cricket with the remainder children playing softball cricket, which is in the curriculum at schools and for cricket tournaments. The CMSCA employs 3 full time coaches along with a part time assistant coach.

CMSCA Chairman, Martin Papworth, thanks the ACST for their benevolence. “Through the kind donations made at the event we can continue improving the opportunities to local youngsters by offering them quality coaching and the best facilities possible as we look to develop the next generation of Thai cricketers. The kind generosity from all at the ACST Siam Sevens helps us massively in our aims.”

The ACST Chairman, Michael “Cat” Maher is equally proud. “The kind generosity from our event participants never ceases to amaze. At past tournaments we have raised hugely significant sums of money for local youngsters in Phuket, Bangkok and Pattaya. We are delighted that we have now shown the same goodwill in Chiang Mai, aiding the CMSCA at what was a magnificent inaugural event while we celebrated our very special 50th anniversary tournament. We look forward to continuing to help in future years. I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for their kind assistance and support.”

The dates for this year’s ACST Siam International Cricket Sevens Tournament are Friday 22 until Sunday 24 November 2019.

RIP Pao

Extremely sad news has reached the ACST that Pao, a young cricketer from Phuket, who appeared at several Phuket International Cricket Sixes has lost his fight to illness in his early 20’s.

Taweekorn Suttiphrapha, to give Pao’s full name, learned the game through the local coaching of Michael Way, Raju Seemant and the much missed Suppatra “Tookta” Jarumoon, playing in the Sixes as part of the Phuket Natives side that played in the tournament as well as a curtain raiser before the T20 floodlight game.

Indeed, Pao was such a performer that he appeared in the main T20 match alongside some professional and international cricketers, taking a catch in the game under the Karon Stadium floodlights. Pao also appeared in representative cricket.

Our thoughts are with Pao’s friends and family at this sad time as well as all our cricket friends in Phuket. RIP young man.

Raju’s Cricket Club lift the Cup

Siam International Cricket Sevens 2018

Finals Day Wrap: Sunday 18th November

Raju’s Cricket Club of Hyderabad ran out as deserved Cup winners at the Siam International Cricket Sevens at the Gymkhana Club in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand to round off a brilliant performance over three days.

The champions put on a brilliant display of bowling and fielding to restrict runners-up, fellow Indian side, Airlinks Pelicans of New Delhi, to 74-2 from their 5 overs, before Praneeth Kumar retired on 30 to be judged as man of the match by the standing umpires as his side won with five balls remaining.

Raju’s Cricket Club had earlier defeated Rhinos City Academy in the semi-final, with Airlinks Pelicans seeing off the challenge of Salford Hawks.

The 50th Anniversary Tournament was contested between twelve sides, with Finals Day seeing teams split into the Cup, Bowl and Plate to see who would collect the trophies at the end of play.

The second tier Bowl competition was won by BCC Devibas of Kathmandu, Nepal who secured a 24 run win after posting 72-2 against the Lanka Lions of Singapore, as Nilantha Wijekoon took the man of the match award with a score of 25. Devibas had reached the final by defeating ADF Tigers, while the Lions overcame Shanghai Hot Dogs in their last four encounter.

The Plate was an all CBB CC encounter. The club playing in their headquarter city for the first time saw the CBB SC’s overtake the CBB SK’s total of 47-2 with an over to spare. Trevor Langworth of the winning side was man of the match with bowling figures of 1 for 4.

Finals Day had begun with the round robin stage of the Plate, with Mark Burns of the ACST All Stars taking a hat trick in the first over of the day. Phuket Cricket Group’s victory over the All Stars wasn’t enough to force their way into the final. The Lions secured their place in the top tier by courtesy of a win against Rhinos.

The adjudication panel decreed that Taranjit Singh of Raju’s Cricket Club received the Player of the Tournament Award for his contribution over the three days of cricket, which included 127 runs from 6 innings at a strike rate of 363.

Monies collected for the designated charity, the Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Alliance, raised an estimated 120,000 Thai Baht, as Chairman Martin Papworth thanked the assembled crowd for their kind generosity.

The presentation ceremony followed play at the ground before those remaining in the city heading to the Crazy German Bar to contemplate on a fantastic event and to party!

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher, who picked up the Spirit of Cricket Award, was an emotional and contented man following the presentations, which took place at the ground following play. "My fellow director Bradley Tarr and myself never dreamt of reaching 50 Tournaments when we met in a Perth bar back in 2000 with a rough outline of an idea, but to do so makes me extremely proud”.

“I’d like to thank anyone who has played their part over the years to bring so many wonderful friendships together. I also offer huge thanks this week to everyone at our hosts Lanna CC and hope that the Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Alliance continues to thrive. In closing I thank our valued major sponsors, The Tourism Authority of Thailand, The Duangtawan Hotel, The Imperial Mae Ping Hotel and Rightway Airlinks as well as any others who’ve supported the ACST.”

The next ACST event will be the Phuket Cricket Week in April 2019, containing the Phuket International Cricket Sixes and the Thalang International Cricket 7’s.

It’s a Super Saturday for Raju’s Cricket Club on Day Two

Day Two Wrap: Saturday 17th November

Raju’s Cricket Club played some magnificent cricket at Day Two of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) Siam International Cricket Sevens in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand to finish top of the seedings going into the final day. The team from Hyderabad swept aside CBB SC’s with a fine performance with Taranjit Singh putting on the style before defeating ADF Tigers in the opening game of the second round.

The 50th Anniversary Tournament is being contested between twelve sides, with participants assembling from all points of the compass to be part of the celebrations, with the Gymkhana Club ground looking at its majestic best.

Round One was completed in the first half the day, with some fine cricket going to form. Rightway Pelicans finished second on the ladder by virtue of a win against the ACST All Stars thanks to some exhilarating batting from Vikas Rana and Sandeep Singh.

Nepalese outfit BCC Devibas won their remaining first round games over Shanghai Hot Dogs and then Phuket Cricket Group. Other matches in the opening salvo saw victories for Rhinos City Academy of Leicester and Dubai against ADF Tigers and Singapore’s Lanka Lions against CBB SK’s, Salford Hawks against the Hot Dogs.

Round Two would see all sides playing an extra game to determine whether they’d be playing for honours in the Cup, Bowl or Plate on Finals Day. The round saw the Hawks continue their impressing showing by seeing off the BCC Devibas, before Rightway Pelicans of New Delhi defeated the Hot Dogs, thanks in part to another brilliant knock from Sandeep Singh; before the day was closed out with a fine CBB SK’s performance against Phuket Cricket Group.

Over many years the ACST has raised money for junior cricket development around their many tournaments. On this occasion the beneficiaries are the Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Alliance; whose Chairman Martin Papworth is delighted with the efforts. “Our youngsters will benefit greatly from the kind generosity of the participants, and it’s tremendous to see several of our youngsters playing in the tournament. We have had boys under our scheme who have gone on to play for Thailand, and we are hoping that there are many more in the future. I’d like to thank the ACST and congratulate them on reaching 50 Tournaments”.

Participants gathered for the The Tournament Gala Dinner sponsored by Tourism Authority of Thailand on Saturday evening at the Duangtawan Hotel where local Thais put on an exhibition of Muay Thai and dancing.

Three sides lead the charge on Day One of the Siam International Cricket Sevens

Day One Wrap: Friday 16th November

It was a fantastic day in the sun for Indian representatives Rightway Pelicans of New Delhi, Raju’s Cricket Club of Hyderabad as well as City Academy Rhinos of Leicester and Dubai as they all completed two victories. Twelve teams have assembled from far and wide to participate in the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) Siam International Cricket Sevens in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.

They are celebrating in the ACST’s 50th Tournament, which has seen events in Hong Kong, Phuket, Macau, the Philippines, Pattaya and Bangkok over the past sixteen years. The ACST core value is Friendships Through Cricket, and there was certainly plenty of camaraderie on show as well as some fine performances.

Play had got under way with the participants in fine fettle proceeding the previous evening’s gathering at the UN Irish Pub. The tournament is raising money for Junior Cricket Development in the region alongside hosts Lanna CC and the Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Association.

Phuket Cricket Group defeated the ACST All Stars before going down to Salford Hawks. The day’s other games saw Shanghai Hot Dogs give the All Stars a lesson, while the ADF Tigers inflicted defeat on the All Stars.

A minute’s silence was observed in memory of Terry Skillett, a great supporter of the short form of the game and stalwart of the Gymkhana Ground each year followed by happy hour dedicated to him at the Boundary Bar.

Participants headed back to the tournament hotels; The Imperial Mae Ping and Duangtawan before proceeding to a social function at the Zoom Bar to continue making friendships through cricket.

Tripathi reign supreme in Phuket

Thalang International Cricket 7's 2018

Final Day Wrap: Sunday 22nd April

Tripathi Blue were crowned as the 2018 Thalang International Cricket 7’s Cup winners after accumulating an amazing 112-1 from their 5 overs to eventually overcome spirited hosts Patong White by 46 runs.

Deepak Khatri and Anuj Kumar thrilled the assembled crowds once again with the bat for the champions, with Matt Kohler retiring undefeated in the reply for Patong to collect the Man of the Match gong.

Special mention must go to Saju Abraham of Patong who bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament and restricted the big hitters to take 1 for 9 from his over, after coming on with the scoreboard reading a staggering 63-0 after just 2 overs!

The win rounded off a magnificent display from the club based in New Delhi, containing young lady players from India and South Africa in their sides who exhibited exhilarating cricket throughout the tournament, playing the game in tremendous spirit.

The seventh staging of the 7’s, was staged once again at the Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket and organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST), forming part of the Phuket Cricket Week, established in 2004, and including the Phuket International Cricket Sixes.

The Cup semi-finals saw Tripathi destroy any hopes of Hong Kong side Discovery Bay Sea Eagles, with Patong White defeating UAE Falcons in dramatic style; chasing down their target off the final ball of the match.

Earlier in the day each of the top six sides played an extra game each to formulate the final standings and deciding which competition they’d compete in for honours. Those matches saw the eventual champions defeat Patong Blue, UAE Falcons beat Discovery Bay Sea Eagles, while Patong White saw off the challenge of Tripathi Orange.

The second tier Bowl was a similar tale to the premier final, as the sister clubs of the Cup finalists fought it out. A predominantly female Tripathi Orange team outgunned Patong Blue as Vikas Rana and Sudhir Tyagi bludgeoned the hosts attack to all parts before Karen Woest took 2 wickets to add to her excellent catching throughout the event to win the Player of the Match plaudits.

However, local cheer came in the final of the Plate as Village Cricket Team overcame the CBB Postels by 8 runs in a fitting triumph that was dedicated to Village’s recently deceased clubmate George McCready and the desperately missed Tookta Supattra, who contributed so much to cricket in Phuket for many years.

Mark Whetton batted in fine style in the final to win the Man of the Match Award after Omer Cheema had taken 3 wickets in an over in an earlier Postels game. Gulshan Youth of Bangladesh had been eliminated following the group stage.

The plaudits of Player of the Tournament went to outstanding quick bowler Lokender of Tripathi, with local umpire John King being awarded the prestigious ACST Spirit of Cricket Award.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher reflected on the previous three days while relaxing with the teams. "What another wonderful Phuket Cricket Week we have enjoyed, with the Thalang 7’s rounding off proceedings in fine style”.

“The ACST is proud to have attracted such a great cross section of teams. I'd like to thank all the participants as well as the committees of the ACG and PCG for their valuable assistance. I would also like to thank our valued major sponsors, The Tourism Authority of Thailand, The Arinara Bangtao Resort, Tripathi Group and Asia Escape Holidays.”

The next ACST event will be the very special ACST 50th Anniversary Tournament. The details of the event, will be announced shortly.

Tripathi have rivals singing the Blues on Day Two

Thalang International Cricket 7's

Day Two Wrap: Saturday 21st April

Tripathi Blue of New Delhi were once again the stand out performers on the middle day of the Thalang International Cricket 7’s as they accumulated stunning victories against the UAE Falcons and their fellow tourists Tripathi Orange with Deepak Khatri and Vanwyk, a young South African lady, playing her full part in the success.

The nine competing sides played a further two matches as the teams looked to qualify for the Cup, Bowl and Plate divisions on Sunday’s Finals Day at the Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket.

Falcons were soaring once again by the end of the day to defeat the predominantly Tripathi Orange female line up and finish second in the standings with help from an Abhishek Paul knock.

Local side Patong CC were fielding two teams, and Blues had an excellent day defeating their Whites side and then Gulshan Youth as Stuart Hamilton found form. Whites also beat the Bangladesh outfit to finish ahead of their stable mates, with Matt Kohler in dynamic form with the bat.

Another local side, Village Cricket team inflicted defeat on CBB Postels but then went down to the Hong Kong representation of Discovery Bay Sea Eagles; who had themselves also seen off the CBB’s with Brad Tarr and Dixie Joy proving to be prudent acquisitions.

Tournament referee Ian Liddell was one of many to enjoy proceedings. “The 7s format tests out the tactics for those who are used to 11 a side or Sixes cricket. It’s always fascinating to see how teams adapt. It certainly offers a little more scope for captains to play with.”

Following play at the ACG the teams returned to the tournament hotel, the Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort for the Tournament Gala Dinner sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and to continue making friendships through cricket

Finals Day at the ACG will start at 9:45am on Sunday as the teams look to win honours. Spectators are welcome, admission is free, and refreshments are available.

Tripathi Blue come out on top on Day One at the ACG

 Thalang International Cricket 7's 2018

Day One Wrap - Friday 20th April

Tripathi Blue of New Delhi in India showed no signs of ceasing dominance at the 2018 Phuket Cricket Week. Several of the same side lifted the Phuket International Cricket Sixes crown a few days ago.

Tripathi Blue saw off challenges from local sides Patong White and Village Cricket Team, with fine performances with the bat from Harshit Kaushik and Carmen, while Deepak Khatri weighed in with a retirement and three wickets in the final game of the day.

The event, in its seventh year has attracted participants from around the globe to the majestic Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket to enjoy a fine festival of cricket to complete the Phuket Cricket Week organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST).

Each of the nine sides will play four matches to determine which honours they will compete for on Sunday’s Finals Day.

Tripathi Group, one of the tournament sponsors fielded two sides in the event; both mixing men and women. Seven women cricketers from India and South Africa, who have developed through the company were split; with two playing for Tripathi Blue and five in the predominantly female Tripathi Orange.

Hot on the heels of the leaders are the UAE Falcons who enjoyed victories over Gulshan Youth of Bangladesh, in a match that was lit up by the batting of Faisal Mohammad, and then the effervescent CBB Postels in a low scoring game.

Tripathi Orange also had enjoyed a good day, collecting two wins as girl power showed the way in wins against a bewildered Patong Blue and then Hong Kong’s Discovery Bay Sea Eagles, as skipper Vikas Rana steered his crew home.

CBB Postels bounced back to defeat Gulshan Youth, while Patong White collected bragging rights in their local derby against Village Cricket Team. In the day’s other game Discovery Bay defeated Patong Blue as Ankur Soni wielded the willow.

Participants headed for a barbeque at the Aussie Pub in Kamala on Friday evening as they continued to make friendships through cricket.

Day Two at the ACG will start at 10.00am on Saturday. Spectators are welcome, admission is free and refreshments are available.

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2018

Finals Day Wrap - Sunday 15th April

Tripathi Blue of New Delhi in India retained their crow as Cup winners of the 14th ACST Phuket International Cricket Sixes on a wonderful day’s play at the Alan Cooke Ground to round off another fine event.

Tripathi put on a brilliant display of bowling and fielding to restrict Heritage Cricketers of Dhaka, Bangladesh to just 44 from their 5 overs, with Harshit Kaushik, Parvinder Awana and Lokender proving to be extremely economical.

The champions defeated Tayyarah.com in the semi-final, as Harshit starred once again. Heritage Cricketers saw off the challenge of Gauhati Eagles, for whom Don Bagawati once again retired, Pritom Sarkar starred with the bat to steer his side home.

The second tier Bowl competition was won by Tayyarah Rangers who restricted local side Patong Blue to 36-4, with Danish Hussain taking 2 wickets. The Bangalore debutants reached their target from just 9 balls, as Harish smashed the ball to all parts of the ACG.

Patong Blue had earlier defeated club mates Patong White in the semi-final, with Tayyarah putting Southern Stars of Victoria to the sword in their last four encounter.

The Plate was won by Surfers Paradise Demons, whose 65-2 from 5 overs, including a fine knock from former first-class player Chris Swan, proved just too steep a challenge for CBB Postels, who ended on

Finals Day kicked off with the two remaining Plate group games, which saw the CBB Postels defeat the Demons in a prelude to the final; while the Queenslanders saw off the challenge of the Gauhati Hawks.

Following play at the ACG the teams returned to the tournament hotel, the Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort for the Presentation Dinner sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and to continue making friendships through cricket, and to see who won the coveted Player of the Tournament and Spirit of Cricket Awards, as the trophies, sponsored by the Tripathi Group, were handed out.

Heritage Cricketers Enjoy a Great Day as the Charge Continues

Day Three Wrap - Saturday 14th April

Heritage Cricketers of Bangladesh had a happy Saturday at the Alan Cooke Ground in Phuket as they demolished local side Patong White in Round One, before wrapping up a greater victory in Round Two, with Syed Shahed and Solmain Hossain Emon once again dominating with the bat.

The top four teams were looking to qualify for the Cup competition at the completion of Round Two, with the following four looking to fight it out for the Bowl on Finals Day. The other three sides will play for the Plate.

Tripathi Blue had led the standings going into the day’s play but found themselves in second spot on net run rate, despite fine wins over Tayyarah.com and Southern Stars of Australia as Deepak Khatri was joined by Vikas Rana, Lokender and Harshit Kaushik; who all found form at the crease.

Gauhati Eagles found form as they accumulated impressive wins against Surfers Paradise Demons; with Don Bagawati and Deep Borah leading the way, before Patong Blue were overcome in no small part thanks to another fine effort from Bagawati.

Tayarrah.com made up for their earlier loss by earning bragging rights against travelling companions Tayarrah Rangers, as Syed Ibrez and Vasanth kept the scorers busy with fine knocks.

The effervescent CBB Postels played out a tied game with Southern Stars to thrill the crowd at the ACG, with Tayarrah Rangers seeing off Gauhati Hawks, before the side from Assam gained consolation in defeating the CBB Postels in the day’s final game as the veteran Devajit Lon enjoyed his moment in the sun.

The 10th Thailand International Cricket Sixes Tournament 2017

Day Two Wrap - Saturday 18th November

Day two of the ACST Thailand International Cricket Sixes at the Thana City Sports Club in Bangkok saw more exhilarating and fascinating action with Tripathi Group imposing themselves as front runners as the teams looked to qualify for their relevant divisions on Finals Day.

The New Delhi outfit, skippered by Kings XI Punjab and India ODI star Parvinder Awana knocked off a large total against the Lanka Lions before dismantling the Beer Battered Seadogs and then Gulshan Youth Club Green in their second round clash.

Round One was completed before three matches in Round Two saw out proceedings at the tenth anniversary event.

Darjeeling CC of the UAE looked in determined mood to retain the Cup for a second successive year as they also inflicted defeated on the ADF Tigers and then Gulshan Green. The Bangladesh side also fell victims to Hong Kong Blues, off the final ball of the game in the tightest finish of the day.

Nawaloka of Sri Lanka were another side to enjoy the middle day of the tournament as they enjoyed victories over the international gathering of CBB CC and then the ACST All Stars. The other two games on day two saw the ACST All Stars fail to live up to their title billing as they fell to fine efforts from India Unstoppables and the ever popular Lanka Lions.

RIP Suppatra 'Tookta' Jarumoon

The ACST is extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Suppatra 'Tookta' Jarumoon following a long brave battle against illness.

Tooky was a friend to many of us for many years; primarily through her involvement with cricket in Phuket and our Phuket International Cricket Sixes Tournament. She was a lovely lady with a beautiful smile who became an integral and vital part of the tournament, be it through her pre-event arrangements, advice and ideas or keeping us all fed and watered at Karon Stadium when running catering operations.

Tooky was treasurer of the PCU and a coach of the youngsters on the island. We saw evidence of her excellent work as the island’s youth often dazzled us with their skills throughout the tournament against touring adult sides.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mark ‘Scarfy’ Whetton and all of Tooky’s friends and relatives at this terribly sad time.

Local team Patong CC were crowned as the 2017 Thalang International Cricket 7’s on another wonderful day’s cricket at the Alan Cooke Ground following victory over Lamma CC as Hico McDonald picked up the plaudits as Player of the Final.

The sixth running of the 7’s, organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) forms part of the Phuket Cricket Week, which was formed in 2004 along with the Phuket International Cricket Sixes.

Patong, fielding many of the side that lifted the Cup in 2016 as Aussie Zen, defeated Phuket Blasters in the semi-final. Runners-up Lamma saw off the challenge of Surfers Paradise CC. Blasters had secured their last four place in the first game of the day by beating Rowdiez.

The second division Bowl competition was won by Singapore outfit HSBC Redbulls who defeated Rowdiez as Pankaj starred with bat and ball. The Redbulls had earned their place in the final with an earlier win over the Postels.

This meant that Postels dropped down to the third tier Bowl, where they overcame the local Village CC in the final as Tim Woodruff put in a man of the match performance. Village CC reached the final by courtesy of a play-off win over NT Stars.

Henno Jordaan picked up the plaudits as the Player of the Tournament with a string of accomplished performances as he weighed in with 148 runs in 6 innings and 3 wickets with a bowling economy rate of just 8 runs an over. SP Mohanty of the HSBC Redbulls received the coveted ACST Spirit of Cricket Award.

The trophies were presented at the ACG at the close of play as participants continued to enjoy the ambience and making friendships through cricket.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher reflected on the previous three days while relaxing with the teams. "This has been a truly brilliant event to round off another wonderful Phuket Cricket Week. The ACST is proud of every event we put on but the camaraderie of the last few days will live long in the memory. I'd like to thank all the participants as well as the committees of the ACG and PCG for their valuable assistance."

Patong CC Lead the Charge in Defence of their Cup Title

Thalang International Cricket 7’s 2017

Day Two Wrap - Saturday 22nd April

Local side Patong CC made it four out of four in round one as their intent to keep hold of their Cup title from 2016 was clear for all to see. The side, which has been boosted with young blood, overcame both Postels and the NT Stars on Day Two at the Alan Cooke Ground on Saturday.

Queensland debutants Surfers Paradise CC finished second in the seedings after tripping up against Hong Kong’s Lamma CC before securing victory over local side Village CC in the day’s last encounter. Village had earlier derailed Lamma in the shock result of the day after starting the day with defeat against the Rowdiez.

Rowdiez also defeated Phuket Blasters but went down to Singapore’s HSBC Redbulls. The Blasters saw off the challenge of the Redbulls in a clash of two mid table sides. In the day’s final game the NT Stars extinguished any hopes of the Postels in a sporting and sociable afternoon clash.

At the completion of Day Two the sides were seeded from one to nine to compete for honours in the Cup, Bowl and Plate competitions on Finals Day on Sunday.

The participants headed to sponsors Black Cat’s Bar in nearby Kamala on Saturday evening to continue making friendships through cricket.

Tournament referee Ian Liddell summed up the tournament thus far after play. “The attitudes and spirit of cricket by all sides has been first class. Everyone should be very proud of the respect that they are showing to the event.”

Joy for the Coastal Teams on Day One

Thalang International Cricket 7’s 2017

Day One Wrap - Friday 21st April

It was a day to remember for three teams located by the coast around the world on Day One as the Thalang International Cricket 7’s got underway at the Alan Cooke Ground (ACG) on Friday under warm skies.

The event was previously known as the Kata Group International 7’s until its relocation for its eighth running in 2017 as the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) with assistance from the committees of the ACG and the Phuket Cricket Group (PCG).

Teams and participants have gathered from across the globe to join the three local teams entering the fray. Day one saw plenty of excellent action.

Newcomers Surfers Paradise CC of Australia, with former Queensland Bulls star Chris Swan in their ranks won both their matches, with victories over amalgamated Aussie entries NT Stars and then local side Phuket Blasters.

Hong Kong’s Lamma CC completed wins in both of their Friday matches by taking out debutants HSBC Redbulls of Singapore as well as the Postels. Another local side Patong CC were the third side to come away with a 100% record as they defeated Rowdiez and then veteran Phuket side Village CC.

Perhaps the game of the day was the clash between Postels and Redbulls, which saw the Western Australian side win by virtue of losing lesser wickets. In the day’s other game the Blasters completed a win over the NT Stars.

After rest at the Arinara Bangtao Resort all participants headed to the sponsors Emmy’s Restaurant and Bar for a social gathering.

Day Two at the ACG will start at 10.00am on Saturday. Spectators are welcome, admission is free and refreshments are available.

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2017

Finals Day Wrap - Sunday 16th April

Tripathi Group of India were crowned as Cup winners of the 14th ACST Phuket International Cricket Sixes on a majestic day at the Alan Cooke Ground to round off another highly successful event.

In gripping final Tripathi scored the winning runs from the final ball of the contest against the Dhaka Warriors of Bangladesh thanks in no small part to a fantastic innings of 33 not out from Vikas Rana.

Tripathi had earlier defeated Southern Stars of Victoria in the semi-final. Runners-up Warriors had defeated the excellent Etihad Challengers side after posting a commanding 69-3.

The second division Bowl competition was won by Yarraleen Lions in another thrilling final as their bowlers held their collective nerve against Etihad Flyers with Craig Grislingham’s over proving decisive.

The Plate was lifted by the Cricket Club of Dibrugarh from Assam in India to add to their Bowl victory in 2016. After finishing seventh seed they defeated eighth placed Patong CC who were playing on home turf in another fitting showpiece following victory against the same opponents in a dress rehearsal earlier in the day. Kamakhya Saikia laid the platform with an unbeaten 33, while team mate Salim Ahmed also had a stand out day.

Finals Day had begun with some excellently spirited matches as the Postels Old Boys went down to Northern Territory BushRangers and then Patong CC before more serious stuff saw Southern Stars take down Yarraleen Lions and Tripathi Group overtake the Etihad Flyer’s total as teams vied for Cup places.

Following play at the ACG the teams returned to the tournament hotel, the Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort for the Presentation Dinner and to continue making friendships through cricket by the pool, and to see who won the coveted Player of the Tournament and Spirit of Cricket Awards.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher was an extremely happy man following Finals Day. “It has been an absolute pleasure to be amongst so many wonderful people and talented cricketers who have put on a magnificent display on the pitch as well as thanking our dedicated team of officials in trying conditions.

The Sixes had got underway with two games featuring sides looking to lift the Plate. India’s Cricket Club of Dibrugarh defeated Postels Old Boys, while host club Patong CC suddenly found second gear to defeat the Northern Territory BushRangers.

Dhaka Warriors Stand Out on Day One

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2017

Day One Wrap - Wednesday 12th April

The cricketing weather Gods shone on the ACST and the Alan Cooke Ground on Day One of the 2017 Phuket International Cricket Sixes.

It was the Dhaka Warriors of Bangladesh playing in Group Two who stood out after their arrival from the Sixes in Hua Hin earlier this week as they smashed local side Patong CC and then saw off Australia’s Southern Stars despite their fine resistance.

The ten participating sides have been split into two groups of five for round one before the sides are ranked from one to ten to determine which competitions they are graded in for round two.

Yarraleen Lions also ended with a 100% record in Group One after two games with fine victories over Etihad Flyers in the day’s opening encounter before later defeating Postels Old Boys.

Newcomers Tripathi Group also won their first two games in Group One thanks to wins against Northern Territory BushRangers and Etihad Flyers.

Etihad Challengers were the final side to end day one with a perfect record following wins over the Cricket Club of Dibrugarh and Southern Stars, with Ahmed Nadeem starring.

In the day’s other encounters the Postels saw off the challenge of the BushRangers, while the Indian side of Dibrugarh saw off Patong CC.

At the close of play the ACST Tournament Referee Ian “Reds” Liddell was a content man. “We avoided the torrential rain that fell just a few kilometres away and we saw some fantastic cricket. The ACG has never looked better and the teams provided a fantastic opening spectacle”.

All participants headed to the sponsors Black Cat’s Bar in Kamala for a social occasion on Wednesday evening after the day’s play.

ACST Announce Dates for 2017 Phuket Cricket Week

The Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) are proud to announce confirmed dates for the Phuket International Cricket Week in April 2017.

Teams, officials and cricket aficionados from all around the world will be heading to take part in the ICC Award winning 14th Phuket International Sixes and the newly titled 6th Thalang International 7’s. The Sixes, which were first competed for in 2004, will be played between Wednesday 12th and Sunday 16th April 2017, with Thursday 13th a designated rest day for participants to enjoy Songkran and a Beach Cricket Tournament. The sixth annual 7’s will follow between Friday 21st and Sunday 23rd April 2017.

Both events will be staged at the Alan Cook Ground (ACG) in the north of the island.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher, is as ever, extremely positive about the event. “The resourcefulness of the ACST is one of our proudest claims. The Arinara Resort at Bangtao was extremely popular with everyone who stayed there during the 2016 Sixes, so we had no hesitation in coming to an arrangement with our old friend Seemant Raju, who manages the resort to stay there for both tournaments. I would like to pass on my sincere thanks on behalf of the ACST to all at the Kata Beach Resort and the Andaman Seaview Hotel, for all their fantastic assistance over the years wishing them every success as we continue to promote these properties moving forward.”

“The Thalang International 7’s was selected for the new title of our wonderful fun event to reflect the change of venue, as the Thalang is the former name of Phuket, and the ACG is located in the northern district of the same name.”

“I would also like to thank the committees of the Alan Cooke Ground (ACG) & Phuket Cricket Group (PCG) for their continued assistance and friendships and look forward to continuing our fabulous relationship for many years to come.”

Team entries for both events are now open for what will be a superb festival of cricket and wonderful camaraderie. Don’t miss out on your chance on a dream cricketing holiday, making lifelong memories and friends.

Darjeeling Cricket Club crowned as 2016 Cup Winners

The 9th Thailand International Cricket Sixes Tournament 2016

Finals Day Wrap - Sunday 30th October

It was a glorious day for Darjeeling CC as they became the latest team to lift the Cup at the 9th Thailand International Cricket Sixes. The UAE’s oldest cricket club defeated Balls on Fire in a dramatic final by 5 runs as the Singapore side lost their last two wickets to catches on the boundary. Pete Kesby was named as Player of the Match. It rounded off the ACST event, which was played at Thana City Sports Club in Bangkok in very damp conditions.

Owing to heavy showers and wet underfoot conditions over the three days, the Bowl and Plate competitions were awarded to the teams on seedings and accumulated points from the completed matches.

The winner of the middle division Bowl ANZA CC of Singapore. The Plate went to the international touring side, the CBB’s.

The well deserved winner of the Spirit of Cricket Award was Tim ‘Socrates’ Caimakamis who once again did a sterling job on organising transport between the hotel and the ground and being there at all times to give participants valuable assistance and advice.

Paul Stewart of ANZA was named as Player of the Tournament following some scintillating performances over the three days of the tournament.

Finals Day had commenced following further tributes to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej with the playing of the Thai national anthem and a minute’s silence, before the completion of the truncated second round of the competition was concluded.

ACST Chairman Michael ‘Cat’ Maher was a proud man as proceedings came to an end. “Once again we have brought together cricketers from around the globe and seeing new and old new friendships blossom is what the ACST is all about”, said Mr Maher. “We have endured some awful playing conditions and weather. I am extremely proud of all the participants and their excellent positive attitudes and respect that they have shown throughout their visit in the face of many challenges. We all share our thoughts with the wonderful people of Thailand in what is a terribly sad time. I would also like to thank all at the Windsor Suites Hotel and Thana City Sports Club for their hard work and hospitality. Here’s to 2017”, he added.

It’s two out of two for ANZA CC on Day Two

The 9th Thailand International Cricket Sixes Tournament 2016

Day Two Wrap - Saturday 29th October

Day two of the ACST Thailand International Cricket Sixes was truncated owing to a downpour at the Thana City Sports Club, but there was plenty of interesting action before the elements took control.

Round One was completed as the locally based Fareast overtook the score of Shanghai Hot Dogs. However, they later went down to another fine effort from Singapore’s Balls of Fire. Cup holders Baluwater CC from Kathmandu defeated Heckle & Jeckle of The Philippines while the final match saw another Singapore side ANZA CC coming out on top against the Hot Dogs.

Round Two began with ANZA continuing their good form as they defeated Darjeeling CC of the UAE. In the final game of the shortened day the Lanka Masters once again showed their quality by seeing off the impressive Balls of Fire.

Round Two will now consist of just one game per team owing to the weather interuptions before the honours are contested in the semi’s and finals.

The weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the participants as they congregated for a social event at the tournament hotel, the Windsor Suites Hotel on Sukhumvit 20 on Saturday evening.

Darjeeling Smiling by Tea Time at Thana City

The 9th Thailand International Cricket Sixes Tournament 2016

Day One Wrap - Friday 28th October

The 9th Thailand International Cricket Sixes got underway on Friday morning at the new venue of Thana City Sports Club in humid conditions helping to dry up the sodden ground.

Before play commenced the Thai national anthem was played and a minutes silence was impeccably observed in respect of the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Each morning of the three day tournament will start with the same tribute.

Debutants to the tournament; Darjeeling CC showed plenty of their Chiang Mai Sixes experience as they had a dream first day racking up two victories. Reigning Cup Winners, Bulawater CC of Nepal were dispatched with the aid of a fine knock from Jamie Watkins. In their second game the UAE outfit saw off fellow first timers Heckle & Jeckle.

It was also two out of two for record Cup winners Lanka Lions who have returned to the event after a year’s sabbatical. They defeated two of the more sociable sides in town in the shape of the CBB’s ADF Tigers as Hiran Fernando showed his class with the bat. The two defeated sides had got things underway with CBB’s coming out on top.

Hong Kong regulars Lamma CC started off their campaign with a defeat to the wily Lankan Masters but bounced back to give Patong CC from Phuket a lesson. Patong found their feet to beat the Masters with Anthony Van Blerk and Sudhir Tyagi contribute with the willow.

In the final game of the first day, two more new teams faced off in the ‘Singapore Derby’ with newly formed Balls of Fire taking the bragging rights over ANZA CC.

ACST Tournament Director Ian Liddell was a happy man following the days play. “We have a very good mix of teams for 2016 as well as a new venue and deck. Unfortunately, the recent heavy rainfall restricted us a little today, but we love a challenge at the ACST!”

Following play all competitors were welcomed by ACST Patron Steve Hatherall for their traditional barbeque and hog roast at Jungle Jims & Moonshine Bar.

Phuket side Aussie Zen are the 2016 Cup Champions

Kata International Cricket 7’s 2016

Finals Day Wrap - Friday 22nd April 2016

Aussie Zen took the plaudits in the Cup, the blue ribbon event of the 2016 Kata Group International Cricket 7’s, following victory over Rowdiez of Qatar and Dubai to round off a fantastic three day’s cricket at the Republic Ground in Chalong, Phuket on Friday. The locally based side clattered 91-1 with Rishi Sadarangani’s fine knock contributing heavily along with Anthony Van Blerk's 26 not out and 1-12 with the ball as well as yet another Stuart Hamilton retirement, with Rowdiez mustering 52-2 in reply.

Zen had earlier seen off the challenge of the veteran international outfit CBB’s in the semi-final, whilst runners-up Rowdiez had defeated Katherine Bushrangers of Northern Territory. Stuart Hamilton of Aussie Zen added much to the success of his team over the three days of the tournament with five retirements of over 30 in seven innings.

The Bowl division went to New South Wales outfit Galah CC who amassed an impressive 81-1 thanks to a magnificent innings of 33 not out from Chris Alexander against Falcons of the UAE who made a gallant 60-3 in reply after earlier eliminating Victoria’s Southern Stars in the play-off match.

As predicted the three early games carried over were pivotal with wins for Galah, Aussie Zen and the Stars determining the final standings after the round robin stage. Southern Stars all-rounder Dale Chandler put in another accomplished performance as he retired with 30 to his name.

Participants retired to the luxurious Kata Beach Resort & Spa, one of two tournament hotels along with the Andaman Seaview for the Awards Dinner where the trophy presentations took place.

The Kata Group International Cricket 7’s formed part of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour, Phuket Cricket Week. At the close of play ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher summed up the mood of the events. “It’s been truly fantastic to be around so many smiling people. Every player, official, spectator, and those assisting at the two grounds have made it such a fantastic success”. “Any tiredness in the unprecedented heat is soon forgotten when you’re around so many fantastic people”, he added.

The next ACST event will be the 2016 Thailand International Cricket Sixes, which will be held in Bangkok in late October.

CBB’s lead the way after Day Two

Kata International Cricket 7’s 2016

Day Two Wrap - Thursday 21st April

International outfit CBB’s stood top of the pile with just three round robin games to be completed at the Republic Ground in Chalong, Phuket at the conclusion of Day Two.

CBB’s won both their games at the event organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST), which forms part of the Phuket Cricket Week with comprehensive performances that put Australian sides Southern Stars and Katherine Bushrangers to the sword as Dixie Joy once again showed the way with the bat with added support from Imran Idrees.

The Rowdiez side hailing from Qatar and Dubai had an outstanding day with victories over Galah CC, Aussie Zen and then Falcons in the final match of the day to elevate their chances of competing in the Cup on Finals Day.

Aussie Zen had a very disappointing day as they also went down to the Bushrangers, after winning their two matches on Wednesday. Zen’s two matches on Friday morning will prove pivotal in the final standings of the round robin table.

Southern Stars collected a win against Falcons before going down to Galah CC who finally put in a performance to justify their pre-tournament status. Falcons remain winless, but have played the game in superb spirit and have at least have the guaranteed consolation of a play-off game to decide whether they’ll compete for honours in the Bowl division.

Bowling performance of the day belonged to Chris Alexander of Galah who took 3-10 in his over against Southern Stars.

At the close of play Tournament Referee Ian Liddell paid tribute to the fortitude of all participants who endured trying conditions in severe heat and humidity. “It really has been an absolute pleasure to be amongst so many smiling faces and see cricket being played in such brilliant spirit.”

Finals Day will start on Friday at 10.15am at the Republic Ground, where spectators are welcome, admission is free and refreshments are available.

Dale Chandler is the hat-trick hero on Day One

Kata Group International Cricket 7’s 2016

Day One Wrap - Wednesday 20th April

The sun shone brightly on the Kata Group Republic Ground in Chalong as the sides and participants from many nations lined up for Day One of the 5th Kata Group International Cricket 7’s.

Highlight of the day was a brilliant over from Dale Chandler of the country Victoria side Southern Stars who dismissed three Rowdiez batsmen with consecutive deliveries to end with figures of 3 for 8. The side from Qatar and Dubai never recovered and were skittled out for just 47, before the Stars knocked off the total with ease.

Local side Aussie Zen appeared twice after lunch and head the table after the opening day as they made light work of challenges from Galah CC of New South Wales and then Falcons of the UAE. Stuart Hamilton led the way with two retirements upon reaching 30 runs.

The international outfit, CBB’s came back from a defeat against Rowdiez to deflate the hopes of Galah and Falcons to sit in second place on net run rate as the experienced Dixie Joy ran amok with the bat. Northern Territory side Katherine Bushrangers recovered from a beating in the opening game by Galah CC which saw a fine knock from Dave Newham to see off Southern Stars and then Rowdiez as Greg Kemp continued his excellent form the previous weeks Phuket International Cricket Sixes.

The opening round of the tournament features a round robin table before sides are split to go for honours on Finals Day on Friday.

After rest at the Andaman Seaview Hotel and the Kata Beach Resort & Spa, all participants headed to the sponsors ALLStar Bar on Taina Road where host Gary Matheson provided a buffet and refreshments.

Day Two at the Republic Ground will start at 10.15am on Thursday. Spectators are welcome, admission is free and refreshments are available.

The Arinara was extremely popular all week with participants, with superb buffet dinner catering for all tastes rounding off a superb week.

The winners, runners-up and officials received medals at the event as ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher paid tribute to a truly international tournament that epitomised the ACST mantra of ‘friendships through cricket’.

Player of the Tournament was announced as Murad Khan of Kuwait Eagles for his express pace bowling and big hitting with the bat, while the highly prestigious Spirit of Cricket Award was picked up by Imran Idrees, a veteran of over 10 years on the ACST tour circuit.

Kuwait Eagles lift the Cup in Phuket

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2016

Finals Day Wrap - Sunday 17th April

Kuwait Eagles were crowned as Cup winners of the 13th ACST Phuket International Cricket Sixes on a majestic day at the Alan Cooke Ground to round off another highly successful event.

In a fitting final to match the previous matches throughout the four-day tournament, Mahmoud Abdullah’s brilliant all round side restricted Yarraleen Lions to 52-3 before reaching the total for the loss of 3 wickets, with 5 balls to spare to remain unbeaten at the ACG.

Eagles had earlier defeated Southern Stars of Victoria in the semi-final thanks to more superb batting from Murad Khan. Runners-up Lions had defeated previously unbeaten Warriors Qatar in their last four clash in probably the shock of the week thanks to a fine bowling display to take 5 Qatari wickets.

The second division Bowl competition saw victory for debutants Cricket Club of Dibrugarh over Kuwait Hawks thanks to nerveless late over bowling. The side from Assam in India had progressed to the final following a semi-final win against CBB’s, while Hawks had deflated the challenge of Gauhati Town in dramatic circumstances.

With one ball remaining the Indian side required 5 runs. The ball was bludgeoned to the fence, where a Hawks fielder soared high to stop the ball crossing the rope on the full to secure a victory in one of the best games many neutral spectators could remember.

Finals Day had begun with one outstanding game to complete from Round Two, which saw locally based side Aussie Zen defeat Discovery Bay Silverbackz. This set up the victors with a place in the Plate Final, where they were defeated by Phuket rivals, Madras Curry House thanks to an excellent knock from Diwan Mydeen.

The Shield was won by Discovery Bay who saw off the challenge of Katherine Bushrangers by 11 runs.

Following play at the ACG the teams headed back to their sumptuous tournament hotel, the Arinara Bangtao Beach Resort for the Presentation Dinner and to continue making friendships through cricket by the pool, and to see who won the coveted Player of the Tournament and Spirit of Cricket Awards.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher summed up the tournament after play. “I am delighted to see so many players from across the world come together and put on a great exhibition of cricket that was played in brilliant spirit. I would like to thank the Phuket Cricket Group and Alan Cooke for their invaluable assistance with the event as well as all our wonderful sponsors and amazing volunteers and officials who have formed a formidable team to ensure that we had yet another tournament to be proud of. Here’s to 2017!”

Warriors Qatar enjoy a Super Saturday at the ACG

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2016

Day Three Wrap - Saturday 16th April

Warriors Qatar stole the show by overtaking Kuwait Eagles at the top of the standings as the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) 13th Phuket international Cricket Sixes moved into Round Two at the Alan Cooke Ground in hot and humid conditions.

The top eight sides from Round One played an extra game each, with their points total carried forward to determine whether they would be competing in the top ranked Cup competition, or the Bowl on Finals Day.

Warriors hammering of Gauhati Town, with continued efforts from Muhammad Hadi and Sandeep Kottary saw them leapfrog Kuwait Eagles, despite that side’s fine win over Cricket Club of Dibrugarh thanks in part to an effortless 30 not out from Amir Javed.

Southern Stars of country Victoria secured a semi-final berth in the Cup thanks to victory over Kuwait Hawks, who had to settle for a place in the Bowl. Yarraleen Lions secured the final Cup spot as CBB’s were overcome as both Chaminda and Danusha reached retirements, despite a fine effort in defeat by Dixie Joy.

The bottom five ranked sides were in competition to see who would reach the finals of the Plate and Shield on Sunday lunchtime. With a game still to be played on Finals Day morning, a couple of Saturday wins for local side Madras Curry House and single victories for DBCC Silverbackz and Aussie Zen lifted their hopes, while two defeats each for Katherine Bushrangers and Fine Legs of Singapore left them taking up the last two places in the standings.

The game between Phuket side Aussie Zen and the Bushrangers from Australia’s Northern Territory saw fine batting performances from Ibrahim and Greg Kemp. Ali Kahn was another Phuket man in form with the willow for the Madras Curry House.

Day 3 was completed with a T20 match between a Kuwait XI led by major supporter Mahmoud Abdullah and a World XI, which comprised of players from the tournament as selected by ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher.

Anthony Van Blerk, Chairman of the Phuket Cricket Group (PCG), who have offered huge assistance to the ACST in the staging of the event was very happy at the end of the day’s play. “It has been superb to welcome teams from far and wide to the Alan Cooke Ground. There has been some fantastic cricket and many friendships have been established”

Finals Day will commence on Sunday at 9.45am, with spectators welcome at the ACG. Admission is free and refreshments are available.

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2016

Day Two Wrap - Friday 15th April

The event has attracted sides from Northern Territory and Victoria in Australia, as well as teams representing Phuket, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Qatar and Kuwait, with supporters and officials flying in from across the globe.

The sun shone brightly throughout the day as the players lit up the event with some magnificent action with bat, ball as well as in the field, where some brilliant catches were taken.

Warriors Qatar once again put down a firm marker as they hammered Discovery Bay Silverbackz to end round one in second position as Muhammad Hadi and Sandeep Kottary blasted their way to retirements. Kuwait Eagles also ended the first stage unbeaten, finishing top of the pile on net run rate after seeing off international outfit CBB’s.

The tightest games of the day saw thrilling finishes as Silverbackz defeated local side Aussie Zen off the last ball. This was followed by a dramatic win by Kuwait Hawks over Gauhati Town, with the Hawks somehow compiling 21 to snatch victory in the final over.

Katherine Bushrangers had a busy schedule upon arrival, with defeats against an excellent Yarraleen Lions performance and against Phuket side Madras Curry House before taking the spoils against Fine Legs in the final game of the day.

In other matches on Friday Gauhati Town defeated Fine Legs, Cricket Club of Dibrugarh beat Madras Curry House with the aid of a retirement from Salim Ahmed and Southern Stars saw off the Silverbackz with skipper Dylan Aspland closing out the game with a brilliant final over.

Teams were separated into three divisions at the close of play for the remainder of the event, to compete in the Cup, Bowl and Plate competitions before they headed off to Emmy’s in Bangtao for a social occasion to complement Thursday evening’s activities at the Kamala Beergarden.

Play will commence at 9.45am on Saturday. Spectators are welcome, admission is free and refreshments are available.

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2016

Day One Wrap - Thursday 14th April

Kuwait Eagles, who form part of Mahmoud Abdullah’s MG7 Cricket Club were the stand out team on Day One of the 13th staging of the Phuket International Cricket Sixes.

The Eagles, with Murad Khan leading the way with some scintillating strokeplay, are one of thirteen sides from across many nations taking part in the event. They handed out beatings to Yarraleen Lions and an experienced Gauhati Town outfit.

Debutants Warriors Qatar also came away with two wins against local side Aussie Zen and then Victorian team, Southern Stars with Sandeep Kottary and Muhammad Hadi putting in fine performances.

Long term favourites the CBB’s put in a couple of excellent team efforts to see off Fine Legs of Singapore and Kuwait Hawks; with the latter game seeing father and son; Mahmoud and Jawad Abdullah take to the field for the Hawks, to the pleasure of the watching crowds.

Cricket Club of Dibrugarh of Assam in India went away with a couple of defeats in their first day at Phuket, but won many friends with their attitude against Kuwait Hawks and Yarraleen Lions.

Need a change from Sixes? Want to have fun? Come and try the 7’s!

The Kata Group International Cricket 7s will once again be forming part of the Phuket Cricket Week along with the Phuket International Cricket Sixes in April.

The 7s offer an alternative from the norm. While it still played as a five overs a side contest, it offers the opportunity for the captain to allow a less than eager bowler to escape to fielding duties!

The 7s has been kindly sponsored by the Kata Group since its inauguration in 2012. It will once again be held at the well appointed Republic Ground in the south of the island.

The event has built a reputation for good fun and friendships in a less frenetic atmosphere than is often experienced at the Sixes. As ever social functions will be provided, including a closing party at the Kata Beach Resort following Finals Day.

The dates for this years three day event are Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd April 2016, which allows interested teams an ideal break before having time to return to work the following Monday.

Places for teams and individuals are still available to enjoy a dream cricketing holiday, making lifelong memories and friends with lots of ‘Fun in the Sun’.

Lady Pie has been satisfying the hunger of the participants of the Phuket Cricket Week since 2005, and we are delighted that they will be available once again at both the Alan Cooke Ground and the Republic Ground during the Sixes and 7’s tournaments.

Lady Pie was started by Susan Usher in early 2004 in Phuket from humble beginnings after sailing from Australia to Phuket. Susan started making Aussie pies to satisfy her own, husband Harry's and the lads from Ao Chalong Yacht Club's desires for real pies

This led to the formation of a home based cottage industry which was washed into the sea by the December 2004 tsunami. Being the Aussie battler she is, Susan was soon back into production with 2 staff again and supplying quite a few boats passing through Phuket. In December 2005 she had moved into new premises in Cherng Talay as a fully Thai registered company.

Continued growth in 2006 and early 2007 resulted in extension of the premises into a factory certified by the Thai FDA, with an adjoining cafe/pie shop, by November 2007.

Lady Pie has a wide range of wholesale customers, which includes many supermarkets, hotels, restaurants and bars throughout Thailand.
