Siam Sevens Postponed. ACST Support the Gymkhana Sixes

Unfortunately, owing to travel restrictions caused through the slowly clearing Covid-19 Pandemic, the ACST have had to postpone the Siam International Cricket Sevens for a second successive year. The tournament will return in November 2022.

While this is naturally disappointing, we are delighted to offer our fullest support to the team in Chiang Mai who are staging their second running of the Gymkhana Sixes between the 3rd and 5th of December. Indeed, our director Ian Liddell along with ACST media man Rob Bernard will be assisting at the tournament.

The ACST will be announcing plans for their tournaments in 2022 in the near future. We thank you for your continued support throughout what has been a difficult time for many people. We will be returning at the earliest possible time to continue Making Friendships Through Cricket.

2021 ACST Phuket Cricket Week Cancelled

We regret to inform you that the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) has been forced to cancel the Phuket Cricket Week which includes both the Phuket International Cricket Sixes and the Thalang International Cricket 7’s, which were scheduled to take place this April, owing to the continuation of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

Unfortunately, the uncertainty of travel and permission to arrive in Thailand without undertaking a costly spell of government administered quarantine has led to our early decision.

The ACST is naturally disappointed and saddened to have had to make this decision but rest assured that plans are in hand to return to Phuket in April 2022.

We are optimistic that things will gradually recover, and we will return to normality as soon as possible. We pass on our good wishes and thoughts to anyone who has been affected throughout these terrible trying times.

Meanwhile, we are planning for the next ACST tournament, which all being well will be the 2021 Siam International Cricket Sevens in Chiang Mai, Thailand which will take place this coming November.

We will keep you updated as and when we have any further news. Thanks for all your support and understanding throughout the pandemic. There is a huge party waiting to happen and we hope it will be with as many of you as possible!

For further details about the ACST, please contact our Chairman, Mr Michael “Cat” Maher at mmaher.padmir@bigpond.com or by telephone on +61 407 385 481.

ACST Supports the Gymkhana Cricket Sixes 2020

As reported a few weeks ago the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour came to the decision to postpone our proposed Siam International Cricket Sevens owing to the uncertainty and travel restrictions caused by the continuing worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

It is our intention that the Siam International Cricket Sevens will return to Chiang Mai in November 2021.

In the meantime, the ACST is offering our fullest backing and endorsement to the Gymkhana Cricket Sixes, a tournament for internally based sides, to be played in Chiang Mai this November as we continue to support cricket in Thailand.

We wish George Appleton and his team along with all the competing sides a successful and happy tournament while looking on with envy wishing we could join you!

A Facebook Group for the tournament has been set up. Give it a click and join in here.

The ACST are continuing to monitor the effects of the pandemic and will bring you latest news of our forthcoming tournaments as soon as possible. In the meantime, we wish you all, along with your friends and family the very best of health and we look forward to again meeting with you in the near future.

Maurice Bromley RIP

The ACST is greatly saddened to hear of the recent passing of Maurice Bromley, former Chairman of the Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes and driving force of that tournament for over two decades.

Maurice was always supportive of ACST events, being an occasional visitor with his wife Renita. ACST Chairman, Michael Maher worked closely with Maurice and other colleagues to revive the Sixes in Chiang Mai to introduce many new teams when the event was at a low ebb before the turn of the millennium.

The thoughts of all connected with the ACST are with Renita, Maurice’s son Robert and all of the Bromley family.

ACST Siam International Cricket Sevens

2020 November Tournament Postponed

Following detailed and careful consideration, the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) have come to the decision to postpone the 2020 Siam International Cricket Sevens owing to the uncertainty posed by the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

We are as disappointed as everyone who was looking forward to attending the event in Chiang Mai, but we must be realistic regarding the chances of overseas visitors being allowed to enter Thailand as visitors in this calendar year, with the uncertainty and issues that this may cause by delaying an announcement. We must continue to put our supporters and customers first.

It is our intention that the Siam International Cricket Sevens will return to Chiang Mai in November 2021.

In the meantime, the ACST will be offering our fullest backing and endorsement to the Gymkhana Sixes, a tournament for internally based sides, to be played in Chiang Mai this November as we continue to support cricket in Thailand.

Everyone at the ACST wish you and your loved ones the best of health and urge you all to stay safe and hope that we all may meet again soon. Please keep checking our pages for announcements of forthcoming tournaments. COVID-19 is a fluid situation. We will continue to offer updates as soon as it is possible.

John King RIP

The Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend, colleague and umpire John King following illness.

John, from Perth WA, was a long time friend of ACST Chairman Michael Maher after meeting each other at the PNG Department in 1970, before he moved to Phuket, where he became a popular local figure and reliable and trusted Coach, Mentor and Umpire. John became an official at our ACST tournaments in Phuket, often the first man at the ground each morning setting up for the day’s play as well as offering a valuable contribution to local cricket in Phuket before he returned to Perth last August.

We will all miss his warm personality and wry sense of humour on and off the pitch as he relaxed with a cigarette and beer discussing life and his love of cricket.

We offer our sincere condolences to John’s family and many friends.

God bless mate and thank you for all your valuable help and happy memories.

March 2020

2020 ACST Phuket Cricket Week Postponement

It is with the greatest regret that the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) has been forced to postpone the Phuket Cricket Week which includes both the 17th Annual Phuket International Cricket Sixes and the 9th Annual Thalang International Cricket 7’s owing to issues caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Cricket Week was due to be staged from the 8th to the 19th of April but travel restrictions introduced by the countries of most of our participating teams and our duty of care with medical concerns regarding the virus to all involved in the event has left us with little option but to make this decision.

The ACST is devastated and saddened to have had to make this decision. We apologise to all our sponsors, supporters, loyal players and local businesses in Phuket that will be affected by it. Unfortunately, we have been beaten by circumstances beyond our control on this occasion.

The next ACST tournament is the 2020 Siam International Cricket Sevens in Chiang Mai, Thailand which will take place between Friday 27th and Sunday the 29th of November 2020.

For further details, please contact ACST Chairman, Mr Michael “Cat” Maher at mmaher.padmir@bigpond.com or by telephone on +61 407 385 481.

Raju’s Cricket Club retain the Cup at the Siam International Cricket Sevens

Finals Day Wrap: Sunday 24th November

Raju’s Cricket Club of Hyderabad ran out as deserved Cup winners at the Siam International Cricket Sevens at the Gymkhana Club in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand to round off a brilliant performance over three days.

They defeated their twin side Raju’s Academy in the final on their 99th cricket tour. Their total of 93-5 was too much for the Academy’s 31-5, as Abdul Khader was named as player of the match following his 31 not out and outstanding over of 2 wickets for 0 runs.

The second staging of the tournament was contested between eight sides, with Finals Day seeing teams split into the Cup, Bowl and Plate to see who would collect the trophies at the end of play.

The second tier Bowl competition was won by debutants Jeju CA of South Korea who defeated ADF Tigers of Penang in Malaysia by 5 runs in a thrilling finale as Park Taekwan picked up the player of the match plaudits with 32 not out and 1-8.

The Plate saw the CBB SC’s; based in Chiang Mai see off Klang CA of Malaysia. The victors got over the line by 4 wickets thanks to the efforts of player of the match Sharek Kader who remained undefeated on 29 and only went for 4 from his over.

Finals Day had begun with matches to decide the finalists in each grade. Raju’s CC saw off the Tigers and the Academy. The Academy narrowly saw off the challenge of Jeju; who gained a psychological advantage with their win against the Tigers.

The CBB SC’s won their plate final place after wins against their second string SK’s line up and the Beer Battered Seadogs of England who also suffered defeat against Klang.

The adjudication panel decided that the Player of the Tournament Award went to Praveen Kumar of Raju’s CC for his contribution over the three days of cricket, which included 191 runs and 5 wickets over the weekend.

Monies were raised throughout the three days for the Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Alliance who assist in the development of junior cricket in Northern Thailand.

ACST Chairman, Michael ‘Cat’ Maher, was delighted at the ground following play. "This has been another excellent gathering of good people who love our beautiful game. The eight competing sides have played some super cricket, and all played in the correct way”.

“We may have had a small number of teams but the quality of those who have attended has more than compensated for that. In closing I thank our valued sponsors, The Duangtawan Hotel and Asia Escape Holidays, as well as any others who’ve supported the ACST.”

The next ACST event will be the Phuket Cricket Week in April 2020, containing the Phuket International Cricket Sixes and the Thalang International Cricket 7’s.

Cricket’s the Winner on Day Two at Chiang Mai

Day Two Wrap: Saturday 23rd November

Participants put on a fine display of seven a side cricket on Day Two of the Siam International Cricket Sevens. Raju’s CC led the way with an unbeaten record of 4 victories in Round One before seeing off Jeju CA in the Cup/Bowl group, but all sides have reasons to be happy with their day’s work.

Raju’s Academy also continued their fine form with wins against the CBB SK’s and the ADF Tigers in the Cup/Bowl.

The tournament is being contested between eight sides, with participants assembling from all points of the compass to be part of the celebrations, with the Gymkhana Club ground looking at its majestic best.

Jeju CA of Korea are the first representatives at an ACST event from that nation since the Korean Crusaders graced the 2008 Philippines International Cricket Sixes. The line up consists of local cricketers who taught themselves the game by watching YouTube coaching videos. They progressed to the top four by virtue of a fine win over the Beer Battered Seadogs.

The other debutant side Klong CA hail from Malaysia. They went down to the Tigers of Penang to find themselves placed in the Plate division, where they boosted their hopes of reaching the final with victory against the CBB SK’s.

Play got under way with a 16 over a side affair featuring 18 of the top players of the tournament.

At the close of play participants congregated at the Boundary Bar to enjoy a social evening over food and drinks and to continue making Friendships Through Cricket where Tournament Referee Ian Liddell reflected on proceedings.

“It’s fantastic to see cricket lovers from all backgrounds enjoying each other’s company and playing competitive cricket in the right spirit”. “There are not many better venues anywhere than the Gymkhana here in Chiang Mai. It adds so much to the spectacle,” added Mr Liddell.

Finals Day at the Gymkhana Club begins at 9.10am on Saturday. Spectators are welcome, admission is free, and refreshments are available.

Raju’s duo lead the charge

on Day One of the Siam International Cricket Sevens

Day One Wrap: Friday 22nd November

Indian sides Raju’s Cricket Club and Raju’s Academy took the plaudits on Day One as the 2019 Siam International Cricket Sevens got underway in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where eight teams have assembled from far and wide to participate in the majestic surroundings of the Gymkhana Club Ground.

Raju’s CC; the reigning champions of the event played some majestic cricket to see off Malaysia’s Klang CA, Jeju CA of South Korea and the international playboys of the CBB SK’s. The club from Hyderabad have a formidable record in these short forms of the game; listing titles in Jakarta and Nepal among their role of honour. The Academy side defeated ADF Tigers of Penang, Yorkshire’s Beer Battered Seadogs and CBB SC’s.

The Tigers; featuring Thai international star Chanchai saw off CBB SC’s before smashing the Seadogs to smithereens. Two sides making their debut at an ACST event were Klang CA of Malaysia and Jeju CA of South Korea.

Jeju won the virgins derby between the two sides while Klang could take consolation from their earlier victory against the CBB SK’s. The tournament had got off to a dramatic start as the CBB SC’s got over the line from the final ball of the match to claim victory over the Seadogs.

The teams were well rested on arrival at the ground following their stay at the Duangtawan Hotel; and the opening evening party at the Zoom Bar in the city. The tournament continues the ACST mantra of “Making Friendships Through Cricket” as well as participants raising funds for junior cricket development in the region.

Day Two at the Gymkhana Club will start at 12.00am on Saturday following an all-star game featuring the 22 best players of the tournament. Spectators are welcome, admission is free, and refreshments are available.

Nepal International Cricket Sevens - Day Two Wrap - Saturday 21st September 2019

The inaugural Nepal International Cricket Sevens have whetted the appetite of Raju’s Academy and Raju’s CC of Hyderabad in India as they backed up a fantastic opening day in fine style.

The Academy decimated the challenge of Dhaka’s Cavaliers in their semi-final game to reach the Cup Final on Sunday while Raju’s CC proved just too strong for host side TipTop Devibas to clinch their place for the premier clash in a cracking finale to Saturday’s play in front of an enthusiastic audience with Pratik playing a swashbuckling innings for the victors. Sunday’s Bowl final will be played between Cavaliers and Devibas.

The Academy made light work of the CBB sister clubs, the SC’s and SK’s to finish on top of the eight team pile after round one. Raju’s CC ended in third position. Devibas were wedged between them in the standings by courtesy of victories over the Cavaliers and Cavalier Nomads. Nalita stood out for the Nepalese outfit.

Cavaliers had ended in fourth position thanks to a comprehensive victory over Blythswood; with the Essex club also going down to the Nomads, who they’ll face again in the Plate/Shield semi-final first up on Sunday.

The winners of that game will face the CBB SC’s in the Plate Final, after they beat the SK’s in a match full of the spirit of the game. The SK’s will face off against the losers of the Nomads v Blythswood encounter.

Chairman of the hosts DEVIBAS, Mr Shailendra Sharma, was a proud man as he viewed proceedings. “It has been a pleasure for DEVIBAS to host this historic first international club cricket tournament to be played in Nepal. We hope that all participants and out partners at the ACST are enjoying their time in Pokhara.” “It’s something like everyone’s dreams. Cricket should and must be this,” added Mr Sharma.

Raju’s Tourists Dominate Day One in Pokhara

Nepal International Cricket Sevens - Day One Wrap - Friday 22nd September 2019

Raju’s Cricket Club and Raju’s Academy of Hyderabad in India were the star teams on day one from Group A; winning all their matches and showing marvellous skills along the way as the peaks of the Annapurna mountain range gave play a stunning backdrop.

Raju’s CC were victorious against Cavaliers of Dhaka, Bangladesh as well as their sister side Cavalier Nomads and the CBB SC’s in the final match of the afternoon as batsmen Tarak and Pratik flayed the ball to all parts. Raju’s Academy came out on top in their matches versus Cavalier Nomads and Cavaliers with Kamal Yadav leading the way.

The tournament got underway following an opening ceremony featuring guests of honour from the state ministry of Kaski District on Constitution Day.

The inaugural event, has attracted participants from far and wide to the UDTC Cricket Ground, with its stunning backdrop, to enjoy a fine festival of cricket organised partners; the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) and DEVIBAS Events and Media Pvt Ltd.

Each of the eight sides will play four matches plus a further second round game to determine which honours they will compete for on Sunday’s Finals Day. Matches are of the same format of cricket sixes, with games lasting around forty minutes and consisting of five overs a side; while captain’s have the luxury of an extra fielder to manoeuvre.

Group B was dominated by host club TipTop Devibas as they collected victories over CBB SC’s and SK’s. In the first of the games they bowled out the SC’s as Ario took an amazing 3-6 with some superb spin bowling.

The CBB party did have something to cheer as both sides inflicted defeat on Blythswood CC of Essex, England. Ian Liddell rolled back the years with a retirement for the SK’s.

ACST Tournament Referee Ian Liddell reflected on the day’s play in content mood after his fine knock. “It’s been an excellent start to this historical tournament, with some high quality cricket. The snow capped mountain peaks emerging from the clouds gave us a truly wonderful backdrop to proceedings.”

Participants headed for a social gathering and party night at Karma Lounge on Friday evening as they continued to make friendships through cricket.

Day Two at the UDTC Cricket Ground will start at 9.30am on Saturday. Spectators are welcome, admission is free, and refreshments are available.
